Atal Setu Toll Concession Ends 31 Dec Unless Extended

Table of Contents

If you live in Ulwe or Dronagiri and work in Mumbai, you know the number by heart. ₹250 to cross Atal Setu. ₹375 for the round trip.

That number has a date on it. The current rate is a concession, and it runs until 31 December 2026.

So the question I’m hearing now is simple. Will my toll double in January? And should that change where I buy?

Here’s what’s decided, what isn’t, and what it could cost you.

Short answer: The Maharashtra Cabinet extended the 50% toll concession on Atal Setu for all of 2026, from 1 January to 31 December. As of 4 November 2026, no decision on 2027 has been announced.

The last two extensions were both approved in January. So a decision in early January is possible. It isn’t confirmed.

Electric cars and buses are fully exempt under the 2026 notification. Check your vehicle type before you worry.

What has actually been decided

When Atal Setu opened in January 2024, the state chose to charge half of the rate MMRDA had proposed. That’s where ₹250 a car comes from.

It has been renewed one year at a time. In January 2025 the cabinet kept the ₹250 rate until December 2025. In January 2026 it extended the 50% concession from 1 January to 31 December 2026, and added a full exemption for electric cars and buses.

That’s the whole record. There’s no announcement yet for 2027.

What it could cost you if it isn’t extended

Nobody has published a 2027 rate. But the current toll is a 50% concession. If it simply lapsed, the car toll could roughly double. That’s a scenario, not a forecast.

Let’s put it in a commuter’s month. Say you cross and return 22 working days a month.

Monthly Atal Setu toll for a car, 22 return trips

Revaa Homes calculation. “If doubled” is a scenario only; no 2027 rate has been announced.

2026 rate
₹8,250
If doubled
₹16,500

At today’s ₹375 return, that’s about ₹8,250 a month. If the rate doubled, it would be ₹16,500. That’s close to ₹1 lakh more a year, for one car.

Is that a reason not to buy in Ulwe? For most people, no. But it’s a real cost, and it belongs in your monthly budget next to the EMI.

Who should actually care

Daily car commuters to South Mumbai or BKC. You’re the most exposed. Run your budget at the higher number now, so January can’t surprise you.

Hybrid workers. Two or three office days a week cuts the exposure by half or more. The bridge still saves you hours.

People who work in Navi Mumbai. You may barely use the bridge. This doesn’t touch your daily life.

EV owners. Under the 2026 notification, electric cars cross free. Watch whether that carries into 2027 too.

What it means if you’re buying near the bridge

Every week someone asks me whether the toll should change their choice of node. My honest answer: it should change your budget, not your decision.

The case for Ulwe, Pushpak Nagar and Dronagiri doesn’t rest on a ₹250 toll. It rests on the airport, the jobs around it, and prices that are still well below Kharghar. A toll change shifts the math for daily car commuters. It doesn’t undo the reasons people move here.

If you’re weighing the area, two Pushpak Nagar projects show the range. Riddhi Siddhi Apartment by Chaitanya Ganesh Builders starts from ₹31.44 lakh. It’s registered as P52000052276.

Delta Greens by Delta Group runs from ₹49.10 lakh to ₹97 lakh, registered as P52000034901. Neither registration showed an extension application on MahaRERA when I checked on 4 November.

For everything being built around the airport, see the new residential projects in Panvel and our guide to property near Navi Mumbai airport. For where the flights actually stand, read our update on the Mumbai flight shift, now delayed to 2027.

The Jayesh read: Budget your commute at the higher toll and treat any extension as a bonus. If the flat still works at ₹16,500 a month in tolls, it works. If it only works at ₹8,250, the toll was never your real problem.

What to watch next

Three things will tell you where the toll lands in 2027.

A cabinet decision. The last two came in January. If one comes earlier, it will be in the state cabinet’s meeting notes and the papers the next morning.

The notification itself. A cabinet nod is followed by a formal notification with the actual rates by vehicle type. That’s the document that counts at the toll booth.

The EV exemption. If you drive electric, check whether the full exemption is renewed along with the concession. It was added for 2026; it isn’t automatic for 2027.

Until then, plan with the higher number. It’s the calm way to handle a decision nobody has made yet.

Questions people are asking me

Is the Atal Setu toll concession extended for 2027?
Not yet. The Maharashtra Cabinet extended the 50% concession from 1 January to 31 December 2026. As of 4 November 2026, no decision on 2027 had been announced. The 2025 and 2026 extensions were both approved in January.
What is the Atal Setu toll for a car right now?
Under the 2026 concession, a car pays ₹250 one way and ₹375 for a return journey. These are half of the rates MMRDA originally proposed. Electric cars and buses are fully exempt under the 2026 notification.
Will the Atal Setu toll double in 2027?
Nobody has announced that. The current rate is a 50% concession, so if it lapsed the car toll could roughly double, but that is a scenario, not a decision. For a daily return commute of 22 days a month, the cost would go from about ₹8,250 to about ₹16,500.
Is Atal Setu free for electric cars?
Yes, under the 2026 cabinet decision. The notification for 1 January to 31 December 2026 included a complete toll exemption for electric motor cars and buses. Whether that continues in 2027 will depend on the next decision.
Should the toll change whether I buy in Ulwe or Dronagiri?
It should change your budget more than your decision. The case for Ulwe, Pushpak Nagar and Dronagiri rests on the airport, jobs and prices below Kharghar. Daily car commuters to Mumbai should budget at the higher toll and treat any extension as a bonus.

I’ll update this page as soon as the cabinet decides on 2027. If you’re weighing a flat near the bridge and want the honest commute math for your life, send it over.
